Mr. Thompson joined the Providence VA Medical Center as a Research Coordinator in August 2016. Prior to joining the PVAMC, Matt received BA degrees and an MS degree in neurobiology from Clark University, summa cum laude, where he completed a graduate research internship at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Medical School. He is broadly interested in cognitive and neurological changes resulting from psychiatric treatment, and has a background in various neuroscience and psychological research methods. In addition to his work with the CfNN, Matt works as a research coordinator for suicide prevention studies with the Center for Innovation in Long-Term Services and Supports (COIN-LTSS).

Matt is currently working on several projects with CfNN:

  • Functional Imaging in Veterans with Trauma-related Anger Problems — PI: Tracie Shea, PhD
  • Effects of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Combined with Virtual Reality for Improving Gate and Balance in Patients with Chronic Effects of Stroke — PI: Susan D’Andrea, PhD
