"Movie Stars" from the MOVE! Program
The Providence VA Medical Center's Nutrition and Food Service has come up with a new way to highlight the progress MOVE! (Managing Overweight Veterans Everywhere) participants are making toward various weight loss goals. It's called "Movie Stars,” and each star of the wall represents veterans who have reached various milestones in their weight loss success. The gold star, for example, represents weight a loss of greater than 40 lbs.; while the silver star represents weight loss between 28-40 lbs. There are other colored stars as well. Patients are excited to see their star go on the board when they lose weight, especially when they move up to a different color star. "Movie Stars" is one way we help motivate the MOVE! participants to stay focused on their weight loss efforts.
The MOVE! Program is a patient-centered weight management program with a primary focus on behavior, nutrition, and physical activity. The Providence MOVE! team includes dietitians, physical therapists, psychologists, pharmacists, and social workers. All patients who come in for their primary care visit are screened for obesity, with those meeting the criteria offered the MOVE! Program.
