PVAMC Conducts Skills Fair for Brown University Medical Students

Brown University medical students participate in Skills Fair at PVAMC

Brown University medical students gather around providers here at the Providence VAMC on May 6 as part of the Skills Fair

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

On May 6, several third-year Brown University medical students participated in a Skills Fair here at the Providence VA Medical Center as part of  their medical simulation training prior to being on the inpatient wards beginning later this Spring.

For many of these students, it was their first exposure to key skills such as lumbar puncture, an injection, a blood draw, suturing, and an IV insertion.  Historically, about 35% of these students will rotate through the VA for an elective or core rotation as part of their training.  This annual fair has been on-going for the past 20+ years.  PVAMC will conduct a Residents' Skills Fair in June.
