Subcommittee on Research Safety (SRS)

The Subcommittee on Research Safety is a division of the Office of Research Oversight (ORS) and subcommittee of the Research and Development Committee (R&D).

The task of the Subcommittee on Research Safety (SRS) is to help ensure the safety of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) research personnel and laboratory security.  This committee oversees compliance with Federal regulations, VHA policies and procedures and all applicable NIH/CDC guidelines.  Ultimately, the SRS is responsible for coordinating the safety program in all research areas, reviewing written safety plans, procedures involving biohazards, biological and chemical waste, research safety SOPs, training manuals and Research Protocol Safety Surveys for all VA and non-VA funded research protocols.

The Research Safety Committee is formed by VHA directive and is specific on its membership.  Specifically, employees who are involved in safety such as safety managers, industrial hygienists and infection control representatives.

SRS meetings are held monthly if at all possible, but no less than ten times a year.
