Neuromodulation and Imaging
Jerome Sanes, PhD
Under the direction of Dr. Sanes, the CfNN Neuromodulation and Neuroimaging Core supports projects across all Focus Areas. Our research agreement with Siemens permits VA scientists to access advanced software and hardware, which facilitates the acquisitions of improved MR images. With the CRADA-supported resources, our scientists have the ability to produce higher resolution images and detect weaker signals, enabling clearer boundary detection between brain areas and different tissues (e.g., gray-white matter) and more sensitively revealing activation during functional MRI. These enhancements have also improved the quality of clinical imaging at PVAMC. Our support contract with the Brown Magnetic Resonance Facility * also permits PVAMC scientists to use the Brown MRI system, which has more availability and some advanced technical features not available at PVAMC.
