VA Providence Healthcare System
An important component of CfNN’s efforts to restore the health and function of Veterans with injury or illness of the nervous system is recruiting and developing a new generation of leading, VA-focused clinician-scientists and researchers. To that end, CfNN’s investigators harness the best of the VA and our partners, leveraging our academic appointments across eight departments at Brown University including within its Alpert Medical School, School of Public Health, School of Engineering, and Brown Institute for Brain Science, as well as at Butler Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the MGH Institute of Health Professions. These rich connections provide CfNN with the opportunity to mentor trainees at all levels, from undergraduates through postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty. Example training pathways have included:
- VA ORD Career Development Awards
- an R25 training grant (NIMH) which partners with CfNN to offer rigorous training and substantial protected research time for psychiatry residents
- pre-doctoral Neuropsychology Internships in partnership with Brown’s Clinical Psychology Training Consortium.
