Veteran Resource Center to be Featured at WaterFire Salute

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Representatives from the Providence VA Medical Center and VA New England Healthcare System will provide Veterans and families with information about VA benefits and health care during the 2019 WaterFire annual Salute to Veterans, Saturday, Nov. 2.

A Veterans resource center will be open near the Washington Street Bridge in Providence from 3:30 to 9 p.m. In addition to VA New England, the Providence VAMC, and Providence VA Regional Benefits Office, other groups will also be providing Veteran resources and information.

"We're honored to be a part of this community-wide celebration of Veterans, service members and their families," said Dr. Susan MacKenzie, director of the Providence VA Medical Center. "Come visit us at the resource center to learn more about VA health care and benefits."

A commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt will be given to Veterans who visit the VA outreach tent at the resource center while supplies last. VA specialists will assist Veterans in completing applications for health care and disability benefits, and interested Veterans are encouraged to bring their DD Form 214, "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty," as well as current financial and medical insurance information.

The Providence VAMC is a partner with WaterFire in presenting the annual salute, which is in its seventh year. Opening ceremonies will take place at 5 p.m. on the State House steps, followed by a torch procession to Waterplace Basin. Veterans will participate in a ring of fire ceremony as the national anthem and a full music program is played, featuring Army and Navy bands.
