Joint Training Exercise at NEIT's Post Road Campus in Warwick

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Police at the Providence VA Medical Center is advising Warwick residents that they might see or hear a large number of emergency responders in the vicinity of 2518 Post Road Friday, Nov. 22.

The Providence VAMC will be participating in a joint exercise with federal, state and local emergency responders at the New England Institute of Technology's Post Road campus.

"People close to where the training will take place will be notified in person by police representatives prior to the training," said John Thibodeau, chief of VA Police at the Providence VAMC. "We've made every effort to put appropriate safety precautions in place to prevent unnecessary risk to participants, area residents and their property."

The VA Police has coordinated the training with state, county and city officials, including the Rhode Island Office of Emergency Management, State Police, Providence Emergency Management, and the Providence Police and Fire departments.

"The location was selected to allow participating agencies to test their equipment, so we can maintain readiness and proficiency," added Thibodeau. "This kind of training is essential in ensuring our responders are fully trained and prepared to work together to protect public safety."
