Providence VA Medical Center, Rhode Island

On-Going or Upcoming Construction Projects

New Clinical Addition - May 2012 The first level of the new clinical addition will provide an electrical upgrade for our Medical Center as well as new space for mechanical and electrical equipment.  The first and second floors, which are each approximately 6400 gross square feet, will be Specialty Clinic exam rooms as well as procedure rooms for outpatient clinics such as dermatology, urology, orthopedics, colorectal surgery, and plastic and vascular surgery.  The third and fourth floors will also be about 6400 gross square feet and will be used for Outpatient Mental Health consultations and group therapy rooms.  This project also includes a 900 square foot elevator core, which will provide accommodations for bariatric bed transport.  The new elevator will serve lobby areas from the basement to the sixth floor, and an elevated walkway will provide access from the new addition’s elevators to the existing Operating Room (OR)/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide a safe and dedicated corridor for patient transport.  The overall building design will accommodate future construction for two additional floors.
The contract for this project was awarded in December 2010, and construction began in April 2011.  The scheduled completion date is May 2012.  The completed structure is designed to blend well with existing and new construction and includes work such as exterior landscaping and new walkways and roadway repairs.  The structure will also meet Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification.
