Trauma Recovery Services (TRS)

Jennifer F. Lambert, Ph.D.,  Chief, Trauma and Readjustment Program
Ext. 2010

The Trauma Recovery Services (TRS), formerly known as the “PTSD Clinic” provides specialized mental health care for Veterans diagnosed with trauma-related disorders. We work with Veterans of all eras and who have experienced a range of traumas, both military and civilian. The goals of the program are to decrease distress, and to help the Veteran create healthier living patterns, leading to improved quality of life and more fulfilling relationships. We are not involved in the VA disability process (service connection) and do not provide assessment or treatment services solely for the purpose of supporting claims.

Treatment Services:

Outpatient treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to clarify each Veteran’s problems and needs. This evaluation includes a thorough interview including a social history and psychiatric evaluation. Veterans then work with their provider(s) to decide on an appropriate treatment plan based on the strengths, needs and goals of the Veteran. TRS works closely with other sections of MHBSS and with the Transition Care Managers and Polytrauma/TBI team to provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary care for our Veterans.

Outpatient treatment options may include the following:

  • Group Therapy (PTSD  Education,  Anger, Depression, Mindfulness, Sleep, DBT, etc.)
  • Short-Term Individual Therapy to provide education and skills training
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (with or without written account)
  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy
  • Present Centered Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy
  • Medication Management
  • Intensive Outpatient Program

We also have a coordinator and team of providers within TRS to address the unique needs of specific populations to include: Veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma, female Veterans, and Returning Veterans. Finally, a TRS staff member serves as the Tele-Mental Health Champion for the facility and provides Evidence Based Psychotherapies via Tele-health to Veterans receiving care at the CBOCs, and is also trained to provide Home-Based Tele-Health.
