The Providence VA Medical Center teamed up with the Rhode Island Indian Council to conduct the first annual POW WOW / Outreach Event at Stepping Stone Ranch in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, on October 13 and 14.  During the two-day event, representatives from local Native American tribes conducted workshops and also performed traditional Native American dances.  The Grand Entry began at 12:00 noon on Sunday.

Representatives from both the Providence VA Medical Center and the Providence VA Regional Office were on hand to discuss VA enrollment as well as provide information about VA care and services.

The Providence VA Medical Center Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Minority Veterans Program and the Rhode Island Indian Council would like to thank all of you who attended the first annual POW WOW.  Minerva Thomas (Providence VAMC’s EEO Coordinator), Lisa Lombard (Native American Program Coordinator at the Providence VAMC), and Darrell Waldron (Rhode Island Indian Council Executive Director) all agree the event was a big success.  “We will be conducting another POW WOW next year,” they said, “we’re ready to start planning now.”
