Last month, several Providence VAMC staff and volunteers performed live character enactments to highlight the accomplishments of African Americans in American History.  The African Americans portrayed included Charles Drew, M.D., Creator of Blood Plasma; Benjamin Banneker, Architect; George Washington Carver, Inventor; Mohammed Ali, Boxer and Philanthropist; Serena Williams, Tennis Player and Businesswoman; Condoleezza Rice, Government Official and 66th Secretary of State; Mahalia Jackson, Gospel Singer/Artist; Maya Angelou, Actor, Dancer, International Acclaimed Author; and Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America.

The Providence VA Medical Center would like to thank Veteran/Program Chair Pearl Beverly for doing such an amazing job orchestrating the nine live enactments as well as the library exhibits and visual displays throughout the hospital.  We would also like to thank the actors, actresses, and supporters for the events; their names are listed below.  They were truly committed to telling the stories and highlighting the accomplishments of African Americans in American History.
